Where should DocBook go?

NormanWalsh recently published a couple of ruminations about DocBook's current problems (see the WhatIsWrongWithDocBook page) and on what it might develop into in the future. One article starts out with the following statement:

There comes a point in the life cycle of any system when adding one more patch is the wrong solution to every problem. Eventually, it's time to rethink, refactor, and rewrite. For DocBook, I think that time has come.

In the first article, he gives some bullet points on a possible new approach and then outlines some design principles and open questions.

More recently, he described a first release of an experimental "DocBook NG".

Other ideas?
