The current release of the following Linux Distributions already have all the packages you need to author and publish DocBook XML documents using XSL. Current releases of other Linux distributions may also provide off-the-shelf DocBook support.
On KDE and Conectiva systems, you should be able to get a working DocBook authoring and publishing environment set up just by installing the task-docbook-xml metapackage; Conectiva also provides a task-docbook-sgml metapackage.
